According to Ayurvedic principles, Prakriti is determined at the time of conception and remains constant throughout life. Prakriti is primarily categorized based on the predominance of the three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each Dosha represents a combination of the five basic elements (Panchamahabhutas) – ether, air, fire, water, and earth.
